Imaginary Friends

  Well this is the current idea of page 30 I have to think what Pompo's family looks like... So the next page might take a lot more time to make.

  So you already know Laichi (Papa) is completely nuts except when he's not. But do you know who else was crazy? That's right! Pompo chan was! Back then I wanted Laichi to suffer in some way. And I didn't quite establish Pompo's personality besides being extremely dumb. So I decided to make him a little crazy. But you know not the violent kind of crazy but dreamy and silly kind of crazy. I guess people find Pompo creepy because he's too into children for no reason explained so far. My current theory is that he has lost his younger sibling when he was a child and he thinks it's his fault somehow. So he constantly wants someone who he can take care of? So he can redeem himself? I hope that makes sense.

It's a very rare angle for Pompo. I have to come up with a good background for the 3rd cut...  But since I used rainbow as the frame, drawing the sky makes the most sense to me. (That's why I filled it with blue for now.)

So this is the last day of their bonding vacation (feels kinda weird. I think it's too short to be called a vacation) Took me a while to find out the right colors of purple for their clothes... I had to make em purple as it's the mixture of their personal colors (red and blue.) I like color symbolism. You have seen it a lot before this page right? Rainbow - Obviously gay but just to indicate they're happy (that's why I say gay instead of lgbt) Oh yeah also used as the symbol of autism. Pink yellow blue - Pan color. Mostly used on Pompo chan's stuff Red/Green - hero/villain black/white - adult/child.  You see this contrast used in their eyes, hands and feet color.

 

 This dark red actually goes surprisingly well with all of my characters... I kinda want both of them to have thick accents because they love their own countries a little much.

  This is what I can draw within 1 hour... Drawn 1 year ago. You know I usually don't use my handwriting for their speech, and idk why but it's very hard to write on the digital device...

I love this page. I want this kind of a page sometimes. They have to understand they're different. I also want to contrast Laichi's "absolute control (over the child)" and Pompo's "guiding." When I say guiding, the basic idea is that Mumu can tell Pompo what he feels even when they don't agree. Man, I can't believe his heart is still functioning after eating fried butter. How?  Again the pacing issue is very serious.   I just wanted to draw the rainbow wave. Yay I love this page! It was A NIGHTMARE to color those glittery clothes! It should be very obvious, but the song name is called Boogie Shoes. But this is also a reference to a movie called  Knock at the Cabin . A gay guy loving disco is too stereotypical I feel... Heck, Pompo chan is full of stereotypes! This is what happens when the creator forgets to clarify what is satire and what is not. Oh well, I'll try to make them more 3 dimentional... figuratively. I'm not talking about the ...

The beginning of true thick line era. But the proportion-wise, not much difference. But their eyes got simplified. (No gradation.) I hate this page. Looks creepy tbh. But Pompo chan finally got what he wanted and I believe this should be a heartwarming scene. Ah yes yes! I should mention that the show they're watching is a real show called Mucha Lucha. It's not a a Mexican cartoon, and HELL! even the creators are not Mexicans! They didn't care about who makes what if the story is good. Good ol days. Now I realized that the second panel looks very uncanny. Maybe I'll fix it later. I need some self-aware jokes like this every now and then. Again pacing issue... After this page, it seems I forgot what I drew previously and focus more on cuteness and light-hearted comedy so I hope you can enjoy.

  I started to use thicker lines from this page. Also keep in mind how tall/short they looked compared to each other here. Ah Pompo chan's eyes look rather uncanny when they're fully open. Oh I tried some experiments here. a) panels are devided by characters instead of frames. (Not done well on this page) b) clouds are used like speech bubbles. (A tad confusing because conventionally cloudy speech bubbles are used to show characters' inner voices.) c) thick thick lines (I LOVE THEM!) Also the sun having eyes for some reason. Yeah so I told you about this before. It's like a magic trick and not some real wizardry. Oh those 2 pages where they're shopping together... They're just TERRIBLE! The pacing is really bad... Why? Because emotional scene should take more room (more pages.) I believe this pacing issue will be there for a while... I started to draw first instead of writing scripts first. So some pages have too many words while others feel rather... quiet? Now...

  Looking back, I believe I was so unmotivated to draw these pages. I could have hardly recalled how I had been drawing before. So both the drawing and story are messy here... I guess I have to clarify this but I was not mentally disturbed while making these pages and I've never tried weed (so I don't really know what it feels like.) But I'm constantly high on caffeine and sugar (that's where my username came from.) and can't put my thoughts together... I really have to tone them done. And I actually wish to draw Pompo chan and Laichi's bonding moments... which got rather difficult after I established the fact that one of them randomly forgets what he did... But I'll figure out...

  This was one page... episode? I guess I can call it an episode. I drew it 1 year ago. It really relates to pages I make at this moment... I still can't decide if he can indeed use magic or not! So consider this way: He might look like he is able to use some real magic, but it's more like a magic "trick..." Man, older pages look very uncanny.

In other words, it has a simple artstyle that looks like for kids, but the story is for adults. (I doubt even adults can enjoy it...)
